Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World used a Fender TC-90 Telecaster and Fender took the opportunity to released a signature ,model called the JA-90 Telecaster. Release in Natural, Ebony Transparent and Crimson Red Transparent finishes. Unusually for a Fender guitar the scale length is only 24.75 inches as opposed to the usual 25.5 inches. Fender craftsmen sat down with Adkins and went over his old Fender TC-90 spec by spec, making several important changes that subsequently produced this unique model. Features include a maple neck set into a semi-hollow ash body, Seymour Duncan® soap-bar pickups, independent volume and tone controls, Adjusto-Matic™ bridge and anchored tailpiece.

This weeks video features an overview & demo of my Fender American Special Stratocaster in Candy Apple Red. The American Special Series was introduced in January 2010 and is Made in America. Essentially the American Series range were introduced to replace the Highway One series that where Fender’s cheapest American made guitars. Sporting an Alder body finished with gloss urethane, it is has a 9.5” radius maple neck and fingerboard with medium jumbo frets, three Texas Special single coil pickups and a Greasebucket Tone Circuit. The pickups feature over wound Alnico V magnets. A large 70’s style jumbo headstock is a neat addition and it helps make this guitar stand out visually. Since it was introduced it has featured several finishes including the featured Candy Apple Red.

This week’s video from 2tu Guitars features an FSR (Factory Special Run) from 2009. A limited edition of 250 pieces in candy apple red. A collaboration between Fender and the Ford Motor Company to celebrate the Ford Mustang model. Based on a Classic Series 60s Telecaster, the model was made in Mexico and sports a matching candy apple red headstock, the Mustang’s galloping horse logo and model name, both on the front of the guitar.

Our latest video has just gone live and something a little different this week. So far we have concentrated on some of the different Fender guitars in my collection, Telecasters, Stratocasters and the Starcaster.
Today we feature a 335-esque guitar, a Michael Kelly Deuce Classica in stunning Tigers Eye finish. Michael Kelly Guitars were founded in 1999 by Tracey Hoeft who is still the President of the Company. The name Michael Kelly was born out of the first names of Michael and Kelly, his children. According to the Company website, Michael is an in house photographer for the company and Kelly manages their Social media outlets. You can take a look at this video by clicking on the picture below. In 2017 the Fender Custom Shop celebrated its 30th Anniversary and it was also the year that I got my first Custom Shop guitar. This pre-owned beauty, a 2016 Fencer Custom Shop Artisan Stratocaster was hanging in Sound Affects Premier in Ormskirk when I went for a look around to see what stock they had. It caught my eye immediately and it took some consideration and trading in of a couple of guitars to be able to take it home with me. The case and case candy was also intact including the Fender Custom Shop tool kit that shortly after Fender stopped supplying with the guitars. In 2017 along with not supplying the took kit the fingerboard of the guitar was replaced with a rosewood one which for me just dilutes the look of the guitars as the roasted AAA maple fingerboard complimented the Claro Walnut top beautifully.
You can watch my overview video of the guitars by clicking on the picture below.
Fender had produced several guitars by the mid 1970s the Telecaster, Stratocaster, Jazzmaster and Jaguar all very much the same in regards of the solid body and loosely the same shape. However they had only flirted with the Semi Hollow territory dominated by Gibson and Gretsch. Fender had produced the Coronado in the late 1960s and had released three versions of that model from approx 1966 through to 1972. They tried again 1975 when they designed the Starcaster and it went into production in 1976. However like its predecessor it struggled to shake off the solid body heritage. With an off set waist body design and a sweeping 'wave' like headstock design it was as far from the Telecaster as could be imagined. Although it was not the most successful of Fenders designed it has become somewhat of a cult classic. The Starcaster and Coronado's were revived and well received in 2013.
Out latest video has just been uploaded. this week we look at a 2012 Japanese made Fender Rosewood Telecaster. Made by fender Japan before FMIC took over running the Japanese operation. A more affordable way of getting a Rosewood Telecaster in the style of the one that George Harrison used on the Apple Rooftop Concert way back in 1969. The video was made the day before i traded it in against my new 2017 George Harrison Telecaster as per our previous blog post.
Hope you enjoy the video you can check it out below.
Two new guitars in this past week.
Firstly I traded my 2012 Japanese Rosewood Telecaster in against a new 2017 Fender George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster. A limited edition guitar with a reported 1,000 pieces being made available worldwide. The four bolt neck plate features George Harrison's signature and his Om symbol. The Second guitar I p[icked up was a 2011 Mexican made Standard Telecaster, originally arctic white it has been finished in a special edition Coca Cola livery in honour of the 2012 London Olympics. One of only 25 guitars it was given to Chad Thomas to play on the last song of his bands set at the Olympic Torch Relay finale concert in Hyde Park with they opened.
Hi Folks
This weeks video is an overview of the Fender Deluxe Blackout Telecaster. A Tele come Strat if you will. Three single coils 'neck' pickups adorn this Mexican made Telecaster. A couple of years ago Todd Krause of the Fender Custom Shop designed a Triple Tele in much the same vein. An under rated guitar that is easily overlooked out of the 2000's Fender Mexican Telecasters. See what you think.....
