The Rickenbacker 336 and 366, 12 string guitars are very rare birds. At heart they are a 12 string 330 or 360 Rickenbacker, what sets them off from other 12 strings is that by the use of a lever and a 'comb' they can be converted into 6 string guitars.
Having only ever read about these weird and wonderful guitars I was lucky enough to see one up close at Sound Affects in Ormskirk. When not in use the 'comb' sits under the strings, when in use it is manoeuvred into position that it hooks the 6 thinner octave strings and pulls the down out of the way. So converting the guitars from 12 to 6 strings.
