A review and demo of the Fender James Burton Telecaster. The James Burton Telecaster is a Signature/Artist Series guitar made by Fender.
Since its introduction it has been through a couple of updates and has been available in several different finishes. As of 2015 the guitar is available in two models, Upgrade and Standard. Both were designed by American country-rock guitarist James Burton along with Dan Smith at Fender. Both models are patterned after mid-century Fender Telecaster guitars played by Burton during his long career with Ricky Nelson, Elvis Presley, Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris, John Denver and many other well-known artists. The original Upgrade was introduced in 1991 and had a poplar body, three Lace Sensor pickups (Blue at the neck, Silver in the middle and Red at the bridge) and a treble/bass expander (TBX) tone control. Initially the model was available in Black with Gold Paisley, Black with Candy Red Paisley, Pearl White and Frost Red. Since then the Black with Gold Paisley, Frost Red and White pearl versions have been retired and currently the model is available in Black with Red Paisley flames and Black with Blue Paisley flames. The James Burton Standard Telecaster is available in candy apple red. The Factory Special Run Hand Stained American Standard Telecaster was released in limited quantities in March 2012. It featured a hand rubbed dark stain finish under a satin lacquer coating. The \wine red stained version featured a rosewood neck.
Only 250 Telecaster were released to the market in 2012, 125 being in the US with 75 heading for Europe and only 16 landing in the UK. The first 50 were signed by Jeff Allen, who at the time was the Production Manager at Fender Corona California. Factory. Jeff has since left Fender and he now heads up the Custom Shop at Martin Guitar. These were the last of the American Standard Telecaster’s to be built without the new 2012 revamped contoured body. The American Standards have since been replaced by the American Professional Series. This truly is a limited, limited edition guitar.
