Fender Acoustics offered a truly remarkable instrument in the distinctive form of the Reso-Tele, which is exactly what the name suggests, a resonator version of a Telecaster. This unusual design, combined with the Telecaster pickup and under-saddle pickup and electronics, makes for a one-of-a-kind playing experience with an appealingly traditional vibe.
The Reso-Tele has a maple Telecaster body with a stylish Three-color Sunburst finish, stylized Fender "F" sound hole and hand-spun cone crafted in Eastern Europe for rich resonator tone. Its standard Telecaster neck pickup and Fishman® Powerchip™ under-saddle pickup can be blended together to taste, along with a master volume control. Other features include a "C"-shaped maple Telecaster neck with a 15.7"-radius maple fretboard, maple "biscuit" bridge with bell-brass nickel-plated tailpiece, and chrome hardware. Originally launched at the 2014 NAMM show, the Reso - Tele's finally hit these shores in numbers in Summer 2014. Mine is affectionately known as the HubCap Tele!!!! The Blacktop series of guitars was introduced by Fender in 2010. All models featured at least one humbucking Alnico Hot Vintage pickup. The Blacktop Strat is available in HH and HSS configurations. In 2015 the Blacktops were merged into the Standard Series of guitars. The Black Top Telecaster featured a silver finish with black pickguard and was one of the first Telecaster from Mexico to feature the belly contour on the back of the guitar. The guitar also features a reversed control plate and instead of the usual knurled chrome control knows Fender fitted the Blacktop tele with Fender skirted amp knobs.

I recently celebrated my 50th Birthday and as a celebration for getting to this milestone i decided to treat myself to my first PRS, not that the guitar collection was getting low in number or anything, just though it was fitting to get a special guitar for this special birthday...and the better half likes it to!!!So it was off to our good friends at Sound Affects Music in Ormskirk to have a mooch round and get up close and personal to a PRS SE Standard 24 Multi Foil. After a little try out the trigger was pulled and home it came. Just a few weeks later the man himself Paul Reed Smith was on a tour of his UK dealers promoting the PRS Private Stock and the recently release PRS John Mayer Silver Sky. I always like attending these evenings with PRS as he is always very interesting when he is talking and answering questions. After Q&A he is willing to sign guitars and have a chat. I told him this was my first PRS despite having nearly 50 Tele's, he asked if I had ever played a Blackguard Tele and when I said I hadn't he said I should and could sell the other Tele's to fund buying a Blackguard, now there is an idea!!!!

A review & demo of the Epiphone Inspired By John Lennon Casino. As the Beatles rose in popularity their stage persona used Rickenbacker, Gretsch and Hofner guitars with Vox amplifiers. Away from the stage they used several different guitars especially as their touring days ended and musical explorations developed.
One of the early ‘other’ guitars was the Epiphone Casino. Paul McCartney was the first Beatle to get a Casino in 1964 and his guitar is shown in the Gibson records to have shipped in November 1962 and featured the smaller Epiphone, ‘Gibson’ like headstock. Both John Lennon and George Harrison got their Casino's later around 1966 and they were almost identical. John’s Casino had a trapeze tailpiece and George’s had a Bigsby tailpiece. Both of these Beatles can be seen using the Casino’s in the Paperback Writer and Rain videos. Lennon later had the sunburst finish removed from his Casino and can be seen playing the now natural finished Casino in the Beatles final public live performance on the roof of the Apple building in 1970. George also scrapped off the sunburst finish on his guitar. Epiphone have released a couple of Casino's with the inspiration from Lennon. The Inspired By Casino 'Revolution' was issued in 2009. On the back of the headstock is Lennon's signature and drawing. You can take a look at the video by clicking on the picture below. A quick unboxing video of a guitar I bought recently. A Fender Standard Telecaster that was finished in special Coca Cola branding for the 2012 London Olympics Torch relay. The torch relay started at Lands’ End and worked itself around Britain, taking a of 70 days to arrive at the Olympic Stadium. The Torch visited England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales as well as Guernsey and Jersey. A series of concerts were lined up to celebrate the torch and its journey.
The final concert was at London’s Hyde Park on July 26th, 2012, the day before the opening ceremony. On the bill and kicking off the concert at Hyde Park were Morning Parade. Morning Parade were a five-piece band from Harlow, Essex. They were formed in 2007and signed with Parlophone in 2010. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2012. The line-up was composed of Steve Sparrow (lead vocals, piano and guitar), Phil Titus (bass), Chad Thomas (guitar), Ben Giddings (piano/synths), and Andrew Hayes (drums). The band broke up on 4 December 2014. In 2017 the guitar was put up for sale by Chad Thomas and was purchased by me. Chad told me that at the concert in Hyde Park he was approached by a Representative of Coca Cola (who were sponsoring the concert) and asked to play the Fender Telecaster. Chad already used Fender guitars at the time and he made a deal with the rep, if he used the guitar on the bands last number of their set he would keep the guitar. Chad duly used the guitar during the sang headlines. I was able to find out that the guitar was on of 25 that were finished in the Coca Cola branding specifically for the 2012 London Olympic celebrations. Martin Sims at the Sims Custom Shop in Kent UK, carried out the work. Originally the guitar was Olympic White. The video was filmed using my Iphone 6+. |
